Presentation Outline

  1. Introduction
    1. What is Cardinal Music?
      1. Mission is to give Stanford artists visibility on the web and Stanford music enthusiasts easy access to Stanford musical content.
    2. Why Cardinal Music?
      1. Personal experience of not being able to find old material.
      2. Users subconsciously expect to find content instantly on the web.
      3. They do not want to waste time on a treasure hunt.
      4. So collating available sources has high value for users and such service can drive a business.
        1. Pushes actionable information to the top
          1. In order to reach a target, a user is bombarded with tons of data and information that they may not find useful.
          2. This includes ads.
      5. Target audience: Primarily Stanford music enthusiasts/artists, but can be those who are not affiliated with the institution.
  2. Why current services fail?
    1. The current sources are Stanford on iTunes U and individual websites.
    2. The web has moved from a model where the user was relatively isolated in a sea of information and data to where the user is constantly interacting with others using the information at hand.
    3. Social networking has therefore become the driving force for the current generation of the web.
      1. Users automatically expect easy interaction where it can take place.
    4. None of the services available now allow users to do this easily.
      1. Even if individual artists have website with interaction features, it is not as useful because of the small number of visitors.
    5. The current deficiencies call for a easy social networking platform for Stanford music enthusiasts.
  3. Social Networking Aspect
    1. There will be a forum where users can login and share comments.
    2. Part of the forum will actually be interspersed throughout the site in the form of reviews so that users can participate at the bottom of artist pages.
    3. They will also be able to create groups and friends lists based on shared interests.
    4. User tagging will be enabled and viewers will be given the option to turn on user-tags display.
      1. This will be in addition to the standard tags that the artists can specify for their own music.
    5. Possible extensions include a Facebook App tracking latest reviews from friends.
  4. Technical and Informational features
    1. Artists and users will be able to create individualized profiles.
    2. Primary organizer will be a search engine that will look through Stanford on iTunes U, artist submitted links, and the archive.
    3. Featured selection, artist, and latest songs will appear on the front page.
    4. Each artist and music page will have a link to purchase songs if the artist has enabled it.
    5. Users will have the ability to rate music.
    6. Artists can pay a fee to upload their content for hosting and archival purposes.
      1. Not sure how they will be charged.
